Five more gold medals will be on the line Tuesday at the 2003 World Athletics Championships outside of Paris. Men are competing for medals in three events, while the women go for the gold in two.
The women will have the first chance to make it to the medal podium Tuesday when they compete in the finals of the triple-jump.
The men follow with an attempt to medal in the discus throw. The only other medal event for the women Tuesday is the 800-meters.
The men close out Day Four with the finals of the 3,000 meter steeple-chase and the 400-meters. The men's 400- provides the best chance for Team USA to add to its medal count, with three Americans in the eight-man field.
Tyree Washington, who has the fastest time in the world in the event since 2001 (44.33), says the past means nothing at the Championships. "Even though I ran a [time of] 44.33 [in the 400-meters], I have to go into it with a clean slate. I have to start all over again. I know it is going to be a battle out there, it is going to be a war. I'm nervous right now, I have been nervous for two weeks," he says.
Calvin Harrison and Jerome Young will also be running for the United States.
