American Football: NFL Preview - 2003-09-07

The U.S. National Football League Season gets underway in earnest Sunday with the Minnesota Vikings taking on the Green Bay Packers and the Oakland Raiders opening against Tennessee.

The Vikings and the Packers open at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, where the Packers have won eight of the last nine meetings with Minnesota.

The Oakland Raiders look to bounce back from their Super Bowl loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when they visit Tennessee. The Raiders scored 93 points in two games against Tennessee last season.

Also Sunday, the St. Louis Rams visit the New York Giants. St. Louis has won seven of their last nine games against New York. Giants' quarterback Kerry Collins needs only 141 passing yards to become the third highest all-time Giants passing leader.

Other games have the Houston Texans visiting the Miami Dolphins, The Baltimore Ravens visit the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Chicago takes on the San Francisco 49ers. The Arizona Cardinals visit the Detroit Lions, the New England Patriots take on the Buffalo Bills, Denver visits Cincinnati, and Indianapolis visits Cleveland.

The San Diego Chargers visit Kansas City, Seattle hosts New Orleans, Atlanta visits the Dallas Cowboys, and Jacksonville visits the Carolina Panthers.

The Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers open their season Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
