2 Die in Latest Iraq Bombings - 2003-09-24

There have been two more bombings in Iraq, leaving at least two people dead and 28 wounded.

Authorities say a bomb exploded in a movie theater, while it was reportedly showing a pornographic film in the northern city of Mosul.

One person died at the scene and several were wounded.

Islamic militants have attacked some movie houses in Iraq since the major fighting ended because they objected to films they regard as immoral.

Earlier a bomb in Baghdad destroyed two commuter buses, killing one person instantly and wounding more than 20 others. Witnesses say a U.S. military patrol had passed by shortly before the blast.

In another development, Iraqi officials say the condition of Governing Council member Akila al-Hashimi has deteriorated. She is undergoing treatment at a U.S. military hospital in Baghdad for gunshot wounds from an assassination attempt on Saturday, and continues to suffer internal bleeding.

Meanwhile, the Governing Council has pulled back from a plan to sell off all state enterprises except for the oil industry.

The finance minister, Kamel al-Keylani, announced the plan at a recent international finance meeting in Dubai.

But a council statement says he was offering only his own opinion, and that only the council could decide such an important issue.
