Defending champion Ernie Els faces Vijay Singh Saturday, in the semifinals of the World Match Play Golf Championship in Virginia Water, England.
Els, who turned 34 on Friday, won two-up, over fellow South African Tim Clark to advance. Els is trying to equal the record of five titles at the event held by Gary Player of South Africa and Seve Ballesteros of Spain.
Singh rallied with four birdies over five holes to post a victory over PGA champion Shaun Micheel of the United States, one-up on the second playoff hole.
British Open Champion Ben Curtis will face Thomas Bjorn of Denmark in the other semifinal. They were the top two finishers in the British Open three months ago.
Curtis defeated fellow-American Chad Campbell 5-3 on Friday, while Bjorn downed Masters champion Mike Weir of Canada 5-4.
