Paul McCartney, Wife Welcome New Baby Girl - 2003-10-30

The wife of former Beatle Paul McCartney has given birth to a baby girl. McCartney, 61, and his wife Heather, 35, are celebrating the birth of their first child. A spokeswoman for the Hospital of St. John and St. Elizabeth in London, Claire Hornick, read a statement written by the couple.

"Paul and Heather McCartney are delighted to announce the birth of their baby daughter, Beatrice Milly McCartney, who was born in London on the 28th of October at 8:45 pm by Cesarean section," said the statement. "The baby, who arrived three weeks early, weighed in at a healthy seven pounds (3.1 kilos), and both she and mum are doing very well. Paul and Heather are ecstatic with the news. They said, 'She is our little beauty, and we could not be prouder.'"

The McCartneys say the child is named after Heather's mother, Beatrice, and Paul's Aunt Milly.

The is the fourth child for Paul McCartney, who became a world famous pop star in the 1960s as a singer, songwriter and bass player for the Beatles.

His other children, all adults, are named Mary, James and Stella. Their mother was Linda Eastman, McCartney's first wife, who died of breast cancer five years ago at the age of 56.

Heather Mills is a former model, who married the ex-Beatle 16 months ago. She is handicapped, having lost a leg in a traffic accident. Earlier this year, she expressed fears that she would never have a child because of health problems.
