PGA Golf Season Ends; Campbell Wins Tour Championship Event - 2003-11-10

The PGA golf season has come to an end in Houston, Texas, with Chad Campbell winning the Tour Championship event and Vijay Singh of Fiji locking up the season money title.

Campbell became the first player to make the Tour Championship his first PGA victory. In the final round Sunday, Campbell carded a 68 for a four-day total of 268. The 29-year-old Texan finished three shots in front of fellow American Charles Howell III and four shots better than South African Retief Goosen.

Vijay Singh of Fiji ended in a tie for fifth place with American Davis Love the third at 276. But that result was enough for Singh to win his first PGA Tour money title this season with more than $7.5 million in winnings. Singh is also in good position to claim Player of the Year honors when his fellow PGA golfers vote later.

World number one ranked Tiger Woods is also in the hunt for Player of the Year. But Woods struggled to a 3-over-par 74 and placed 26th in the 31-player field. Woods had won the money title in each of the previous four seasons. This year, he collected more than $6.6 million this year.
