A U.S. State Department spokesman says Secretary of State Colin Powell is recovering well, three weeks after undergoing surgery to remove his cancerous prostate gland.
Spokesman Adam Ereli said Mr. Powell was examined Monday at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and that he was doing well as he eased back into a normal schedule.
THe spokesman added that Mr. Powell spoke by phone Monday with U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan to discuss a number of international issues including Iraq and Afghanistan.
