Swedish skier Anja Paerson extended her lead in the overall women's World Cup standings by winning her third straight slalom event.
Paerson took the lead in the first run Sunday in Maribor, Slovenia, then increased the gap on her second trip down the hill. She won the event by a whopping 1.24 seconds over Austrian Marlies Schild. Nicole Hosp, also from Austria, came in third. Paerson also won the giant slalom on Saturday. Sunday's victory was the 17th title of her career, including six at Maribor.
The 22-year-old Paerson has won all but one of the six slaloms this season. She leads the overall standings with 998 points, 105 ahead of Austrian Renate Goetschl. Hilde Gerg of Germany is third with 768 points.
