Frenchman Anthony Dupuis has captured the first title of his tennis career, with a three-set win over Croatian teenager Mario Ancic at the Milan Indoor tournament in Italy. The 30-year-old Frenchman won the three-hour battle 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 on Sunday, despite failing to convert on seven match points in the second-set tiebreaker. Sunday's win improved Dupuis' record to 2-1 in head-to-head ATP matches with Ancic.
The 19-year-old Ancic, who is considered to be the Croatian successor to former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, was in his first career final. The Frenchman cheered exuberantly after scoring the winning point, threw his shirt into the crowd and embraced Ancic before leaving the court.
