Second Bomb Explodes in Turkey, Days Before NATO Summit - 2004-06-24

update

A powerful explosion has rocked a residential area of Istanbul, killing two people, hours after a smaller bomb exploded at a luxury hotel in Ankara.

Turkish TV reports the two died when the bomb ripped through a bus in a residential district of Istanbul. Seven people were wounded.

Earlier Thursday, Turkish authorities said one police officer was wounded when a small bomb exploded in front of the Hilton hotel where President Bush is expected to stay when he visits Ankara ahead of next week's NATO summit in Istanbul.

President Bush is due to arrive in Ankara late Saturday for talks with Turkish leaders the following day. He is then scheduled to travel to Istanbul for the NATO summit, which opens Monday.
