With a full week of competition remaining, Saturday will be one of the busiest days of the Summer Olympics in Greece. 26 gold medals plus winners in sailing will be crowned at the Athens Games.
Final events are scheduled in 14 different sports, which will almost certainly shuffle the medal table. The day begins with the United States at the top of the medal table with 17 gold medals and 40 overall. China has 15 golds and 36 overall while Japan has 19 total medals including 12 gold. Australia, Russia and Italy follow in the standings.
The classic event of discus will be decided among the women while on the track, the world's fastest woman will need just a handful of seconds to claim gold in the 100-meter sprint.
Rowers will slice through the water in the men's and women's final skiff and coxless pairs. The men also pull the oars in the coxed pairs and coxless four.
Badminton concludes with the men's finals and women's doubles. Track Cycling continues with finals in team sprint and the men's individual pursuit.
The final team dressage offers an equestrian gold medal. Fencing crowns a winner in men's team foil. The men also jump for gold in gymnastic trampoline.
Weightlifters again defy the pull of gravity in the women's over 75-kilogram and men's over-85 kilogram categories.
The Olympic Aquatic Centre is the venue for the final swimming events. Gold medals are waiting for the fastest in the women's 50-meter freestyle, 1500 meter and four-by-100 meter medley relay. The men also splash to Olympic glory in the four-by-100 meter medley relay.
Olympic tennis champions will emerge as Nicolas Masu of Chile plays American Mardy Fish in the men's final. World number one Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium faces Amelie Maruesmo of France in the women's final. A winner will also get the men's gold in doubles table tennis
The final in men's 25-meter rapid-fire pistol will put another athlete at the top of the podium. The final men's team event in archery is also scheduled, while a dozen sailing events will be held off the Greek shore.
