update

Track and field action provides the highlights at the Summer Games in Greece Monday.

China begins the day back on top of the medal standings with 22 gold and 46 overall. The United States has 21 gold and 56 overall while Japan is third with 26 overall, including 13 gold.

Speed will determine who walks away with gold in Athens in the men's 400-meter and women's 800-meter finals on the track. The men toss the discus while the women compete in the triple jump, 5,000 meter final and 20-kilometer walk.

Cyclists speed around the track at the Olympic velodrome in the men's team pursuit final. At the Olympic gymnasium, the men's finals in vault, parallel bars and horizontal bars highlight artistic gymnastics while the women take part in the beam final.

Wrestling features four gold medals in the women's weight categories of 48, 55, 63 and 72-kilograms. The softball final is also scheduled at the Helliniko Olympic softball stadium. The U.S. team comes into the final undefeated in eight games and outscoring all opponents, 46-0. Australia is in the final after defeating Japan on Sunday. Japan has the bronze medal.

Galatsi Olympic gymnasium is the venue for the singles final in men's table tennis.
