Cricket: Sri Lanka Defeats South Africa in 4th One-Day International Match - 2004-08-28


Sri Lanka's cricket team has defeated South Africa by seven wickets in the fourth one day international match thanks to half centuries by Kumar Sangakkara and Avishka Gunawardene.

Sangakkara scored an unbeaten 74 runs while Gunawardene had 52 to help lead Sri Lanka to 236 for three in 46 overs. The score was in response to South Africa's total of 235 for seven.

Sri Lanka rested front-line bowlers Chaminda Vaas, Nuwan Zoysa and Rangana Herath but still handed South Africa its ninth straight defeat. Sri Lanka has an unassailable 4-0 lead in the five-match series.
