MLB:  Giants Beat Dodgers - 2004-10-02


In major league baseball, the San Francisco Giants spoiled the Los Angeles Dodgers' chance to wrap up the National League West Division title Friday, but the Dodgers still have a two-game lead over the Giants with two games to go.

San Francisco, which is tied with the Houston Astros for the NL wildcard berth, beat Los Angeles, 4-2.

Houston beat Colorado 4-2 Friday.

In the American League, Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki ran his hits total for the season up to 259, breaking the single-season record for base hits. Hall of Famer George Sisler set the record in 1920. The Mariners beat the Texas Rangers, 8-3.

In the AL West division, the Anaheim Angels are one victory away from clinching the AL West division title, after crushing the host Oakland Athletics, 10-0. Anaheim leads Oakland by one game in the standings, with two games left.
