Former world number one women's tennis player Kim Clijsters' comeback from injury has hit a snag as she withdrew with wrist pain in the semifinals of the Gaz de France Stars tournament in Hasselt, Belgium.
Clijsters was losing to Elena Bovina of Russia, 4-6, 2-2 when the Belgian player had to pull out with a left wrist injury. Clijsters was making her return to competition after being out five months due to her wrist problems.
Her withdrawal sets up an all-Russian final between Bovina and U.S and French Open runner up Elena Dementieva. The world number six Dementieva scored a straight-set win over Maria Elena Camerin of Italy (6-3, 6-3).
Bovina's one tournament championship this year was in New Haven, Connecticut, where she beat Dementieva in the semifinals.
