British Official Praises Pakistan's Hunt for al-Qaida Fighters - 2004-10-06

update

British Defense Secretary Geoffrey Hoon has praised Pakistan's drive against al-Qaida fighters along the country's border with Afghanistan and predicted the effort will be increasingly successful.

Mr. Hoon made the comment as he ends a two-day visit to Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad and travels to India to meet the country's defense minister, Pranab Mukherjee.

Mr. Hoon says he had good discussions about fighting terrorism with President General Pervez Musharraf and other top officials while he was in Pakistan.

Mr. Hoon says improved cooperation by Pakistan in the drive against terrorists tightens the net around al-Qaida militants being pursued by the U.S.-led coalition just across the border in Afghanistan.

Islamabad says its troops operating in the tribal border area have killed at least 100 militants in recent fighting.
