Families of Bali Bombing Victims Mark Second Anniversary - 2004-10-12

Families of the 202 victims who died in the bombings of two nightclubs in Bali have marked the second anniversary of the attacks with emotional ceremonies on the Indonesian resort island and in Australia.

Australia's ambassador to Indonesia, David Ritchie, told mourners in Bali that they are united not only in grief and sympathy but also in determination to eradicate the evil of terrorism from the world.

In Canberra, Australian Prime Minister John Howard lit a candle to the victims and said terrorists only respect strength and called for a rededication to the fight against them.

Some 88 Australians were among those killed in the nightclub bombings attributed to the al Qaida-linked Jemaah Islamiyah group.
