At Least 7 Dead in Baghdad Green Zone Blast - 2004-10-14

Insurgents across Iraq have intensified their campaign of violence one day before the holy month of Ramadan.

Inside Baghdad's heavily protected Green Zone, two explosions Thursday killed at least seven people, including two Americans. At least 15 others were hurt.

Initial investigations point to hand-carried bombs, raising questions about how the zone's security was breached.

In eastern Baghdad, a roadside blast killed one American soldier and wounded two others.

To the west, in Fallujah, the U.S. military says its planes carried out successful strikes on sites used by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's terror network. Local doctors say five civilians were killed.

In Mosul, two bombs exploded targeting an Iraqi National Guard patrol and a U.S. military convoy. Police say a civilian was killed and six Iraqi National Guardsmen were wounded.

And, a militant group in Iraq (the Army of Ansar al-Sunna) posted a video on its Internet site showing the apparent beheading of a Turkish truck driver the group says worked for U.S. forces.
