Abramoff Sentenced to Nearly Six Years in Miami Fraud Case

Disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff has been sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison in Miami for a fraud case.

Abramoff and a business partner pleaded guilty in Miami to charges related to fraudulently obtaining $60 million in financing for a line of casino ships.

The Miami proceedings are separate from the case against Abramoff in Washington, where he pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy, tax evasion and mail fraud in connection with efforts to influence members of Congress.

He is cooperating in an investigation that he attempted to influence as many as 20 members of Congress and congressional staffers, including former Republican House Leader Tom DeLay, with illegal gifts, favors and other contributions.
