American Daron Rahlves Wins World Cup Downhill in Bormio, Takes Overall Lead


American skier Daron Rahlves has won a men's World Cup downhill race in Bormio, Italy and taken the overall season lead.

Rahlves conquered the famed Stelvio course in 1:57.68.

Austrian Fritz Strobl, the 2002 Olympic champion, was second, 0.32 second back. Switzerland's Tobias Gruenenfelder finished third, 0.35 second behind the winner.

With the victory, Rahlves took the overall World Cup season points lead with 489 points. Countryman Bode Miller is second with 471 points. Michael Walchhofer of Austria is third with 470 points.
