Bomb Kills 2 US Soldiers in Afghanistan

A roadside bomb attack in southern Afghanistan has killed two U.S. soldiers and wounded three others.

U.S. military officials say the bomb exploded while the soldiers were on patrol Thursday in the Deh Rawood district of Uruzgan province, 400 kilometers southwest of the capital, Kabul.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and there is no word whether it was linked to Afghanistan's landmark elections. The vote last week passed relatively peacefully, despite Taleban militiamen's threats to disrupt the balloting.

News of the bomb blast came during the first hours of the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims in Afghanistan and throughout the world fast and pray during daylight hours.

Ramadan recalls the time more than 14 centuries ago when, according to Muslim belief, the words of the Koran were revealed to the prophet Mohammed.
