Brazil National Football Team Will Not Play Kuwait

Brazil's national football team will not play a friendly match against a Kuwaiti all-star team after several European clubs refused to release top Brazilian players.

Brazil plays a friendly against the United Arab Emirates Saturday in Abu Dhabi, and planned to play the Kuwaitis on Tuesday. However, the International Football Federation (FIFA) told Brazil it would not consider the match an official international game. FIFA also said it would not obligate European clubs to release Brazilian players for the match.

Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Parreira had hoped to use the two matches to test players for next year's World Cup. The Brazilian Football Confederation said the Kuwaiti match would be rescheduled for next year.

Brazil is celebrating a banner year after winning the Copa America, the Confederations Cup and finishing first in South American qualifying for next year's World Cup in Germany.
