NBA: Kidd Leads Nets to Win Over Heat in Game 1 of Semifinal Series

The National Basketball Association playoffs continued Monday night with two games. Jason Kidd scored 22 points and added nine rebounds and seven assists to lead the New Jersey Nets to a 100-88 win over the host Miami Heat in Game One of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Vince Carter scored 27 points and Richard Jefferson contributed 20 points for the Nets. For its part, Miami showed numerous defensive lapses and committed nine turnovers in the first quarter. Star center Shaquille O'Neal had his playing time limited after getting into foul trouble. Game Two will be played Wednesday in Miami.

In Phoenix, NBA Most Valuable Player Steve Nash scored 31 points to go with a dozen assists, helping lead the Suns to a 130-123 win over the Los Angeles Clippers in Game One of the best-of-seven Western Conference semi-final series.

The Suns red-hot offense shot 55 percent from the field including 12 three-pointers. Shawn Marion added 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Suns, who had six players in double figures. That was enough to offset a 40-point performance by the Clippers Elton Brand. Phoenix has now won four straight postseason games and will host the Game Two on Wednesday.
