Colombian Foreign Minister Carolina Barco has sent U.S. officials a protest note, saying she was subjected to what she termed an "excessive" security search recently at the Miami airport.
Ms. Barco said Friday that the incident happened last month as she arrived in the United States en route to Washington for an Organization of American States meeting.
Ms. Barco says she showed authorities her Colombian diplomatic passport and identified herself as the foreign minister.
But she says the move had no effect on security officials who searched her belongings and called on her to remove her shoes and belt during the check.
The United States increased security measures at its airports nationwide following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
