Ethiopia to Withdraw Troops from Eritrea Border

Ethiopia's foreign minister, Seyoum Mesfin, says his country will withdraw its troops from the tense border with Eritrea, in compliance with a United Nations Security Council resolution passed last month.

In a statement published in the government-owned Ethiopian Herald newspaper Saturday, Mr. Mesfin warned Eritrea, which also has troops massed on the border, not to take unfair advantage of the unilateral withdrawal.

He did not say when the pullback will begin.

The U.N. Security Council resolution threatens sanctions against both countries if they use force to settle their boundary dispute.

Eritrea and Ethiopia fought a war over the border that killed 70,000 people between 1998 and 2000.
