A spokesman for the United Nations war crimes tribunal has confirmed that Serbia has assured the court's top prosecutor of its intention to extradite fugitive suspect Ratko Mladic by the end of the month.
Anton Nikiforov, spokesman for prosecutor Carla del Ponte says Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica made the pledge during talks with the prosecutor in Belgrade last week.
After receiving the assurances, the European Union Wednesday resumed talks with Serbia and Montenegro on forging closer ties.
EU authorities have repeatedly urged Serbia to arrest Mladic before the current round of talks.
