Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern is traveling to Spain Thursday for talks with his Spanish counterpart, Jose Luis Zapatero.
The two are expected to discuss progress toward ratification of the EU constitution among member countries. Spain voted in favor of it in February. Ireland has yet to schedule a vote.
Their agenda also includes the future financing of the EU and the status of minority languages such as Gaelic and regional Spanish languages.
The Irish prime minister is also expected to lay a wreath at the memorial to the victims of last year's terrorist bomb attacks in Madrid.
