London Bombing Memorial Unveiled

update

The first permanent memorial for the 52 victims killed in the July 7 suicide bombings on London's transit system was unveiled Saturday.

The simple white plaque was quietly presented by a gardener without ceremony at London's Victoria Embankment Gardens.

The victims are memorialized in an inscription, which also remembers the thousands of "people of all faiths and nationalities" who grieved for those killed with wreaths and other mementos placed in the park in the days after the attacks.

The plaque includes a quote by London Mayor Ken Livingstone: "The city will endure, it is the future of our world."
