Muttiah Muralitharan Surpasses 400 Wicket Mark in One-day Cricket

Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has surpassed the 400 wicket mark in one-day cricket, but that did not stop South Africa from beating Sri Lanka by nine runs at a limited-overs tri-series match in Adelaide, Australia.

Opener Boeta Dippenaar anchored South Africa's innings with a personal best of 125 runs Tuesday, while Herschelle Gibbs added 68 as the South Africans scored 263-5 in their 50-overs.

Sri Lanka needed 11 runs on its last over but fell short with Tillakaratne Dilshan stranded on 83 and a total of 254-8.

At the midpoint of the three-nation series, Australia leads with 10 points, Sri Lanka has nine and South Africa has eight. Sri Lanka plays Australia Thursday in Adelaide.
