NBA Attendance Highest in History

update

The National Basketball Association regular season ended Wednesday and the league reports attendance was the highest in NBA history.

Total attendance was 21.3 million, an increase of about 800,000 from the previous mark set in the 1995-96 season. Average attendance for the regular season was 17,314. That is 58 fans per game more than the old record, also set during the 1995-96 season.

Even excluding the expansion Charlotte Bobcats, the NBA still drew nearly 450,000 more fans than last season.

The highest attendance average this season was for the reigning champion Detroit Pistons at 22,076 per game. The lowest was for the New Orleans Hornets at 14,221 per game.

The NBA playoffs begin Saturday. All eight first round series are a best-of-seven games.
