Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General José Miguel Insulza is visiting Nicaragua Wednesday to help find a solution to the country's political crisis.
The Secretary General will be traveling with a delegation including OAS ambassadors from Peru, Canada and Panama. The group is scheduled to meet with government officials, political party representatives and members of civil and religious groups.
The Secretary General travels to Nicaragua at the invitation of President Enrique Bolaños. The president has been in conflict with Nicaragua's opposition-dominated Congress for months, and there have been student protests in the countries in recent months.
Mr. Insulza said the OAS stands ready to do all it can to help Nicaragua strengthen its democratic institutions.
