President Reagan's Diaries to be Published

The diaries that former President Ronald Reagan kept during his eight years in the White House will be published next year.

New York-based HarperCollins Publishers says it has acquired the global rights to the diaries, in which Mr. Reagan wrote down his personal thoughts and observations.

The publisher bought the rights from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Foundation after more than a year of negotiations.

Scholars who have seen the diaries say they offer Mr. Reagan's candid thoughts on world leaders and developments during his time.

Mr. Reagan was president from 1981 to 1989, the final years of the Cold War. He died last June at the age of 93.
