Sandrine Bailly Wins World Cup Biathlon in Ruhpolding


France's Sandrine Bailly has claimed her first World Cup win of the season in a women's 7.5-kilometer biathlon sprint event in Ruhpolding, Germany.

Bailly finished in 24:57.06 with one shooting miss. Kati Wilhelm of Germany was second, 1.4 seconds back, also with one penalty lap.

Russian Svetlana Ishmouratova was third, 23.6 seconds back with no shooting misses.

Wilhelm retained the overall World Cup lead with 387 points, 49 more than Sweden's Anna Carin Olofsson. Ishmouratova is third overall with 328 points.

The competition continues through Sunday. Biathlon combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting from a variety of positions. Athletes must ski penalty laps for shooting misses.
