Olympic silver medalist Irina Slutskaya of Russia has the lead after the ladies' short program at the Cup of Russia figure skating event in Moscow.
Slutskaya skated a program that included a triple lutz-double toe loop jump combination, a triple flip and a double axel for a total of 61.12 points. Italian Carolina Kostner was second (57.50 points) with world champion Shizuka Arakawa of Japan third (56.70).
In the pairs competition, China's Dan Zhang and Hao Zhang lead Russians Julia Obertas and Sergei Slavnov after the short program. Americans Jennifer Don and Jonathon Hunt are in third place.
World champions Tatiana Navka and Roman Kostomarov of Russia lead the ice dancing after the compulsory dance. Ukraine's Elena Grushina and Ruslan Goncharov are in second place followed by Russia's Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin.
The Cup of Russia is the last of the International Skating Union's Grand Prix events. The top finishers in the season standings advance to the Grand Prix finals next month in Beijing, China.
