Sweden Marks 20th Anniversary of Palme's Murder


Swedes have marked the 20th anniversary of the murder of Prime Minister Olof Palme with ceremonies and flowers.

Red roses lay on a bronze plaque in Stockholm marking the spot where Mr. Palme was shot in the back while walking home from the cinema with his wife.

Sweden's current Prime Minister Goran Persson and Mr. Palme's successor, Ingvar Carlsson, both participated in ceremonies marking the anniversary

His murder has not been solved, though Swedish police say they are investigating new leads in the case.

The Olof Palme Memorial Fund in Sweden awarded its annual prize to Burma's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, at a ceremony Tuesday in Stockholm.

A political leader of the Burmese exile community, Sein Win received the award on behalf of Aung San Suu Kyi, who is under house arrest in Burma.
