World number-one women's tennis player Lindsay Davenport of the United States will meet Italy's Silvia Farina Elia in the final of the Bausch and Lomb Championships Sunday in Amelia Island, Florida.
Both women scored convincing semifinal victories on Saturday. In the first, the top-seeded defending champion Davenport dominated seventh-seeded Nadia Petrova of Russia 6-0, 6-3 in just 48 minutes.
The 12th-seeded Farina Elia had an equally smooth path to the final, as she dispatched unseeded Virginie Razzano of France, 6-1, 6-3.
On Sunday, Davenport will be making her fifth finals appearance in six tournaments this year. While she has only one victory, she is strongly favored to beat Farina Elia. Davenport has a 6-1 record against the Italian and will be gunning for her third Bausch and Lomb title.
Farina Elia will be appearing in her 13th final, and will be after the fourth title of her career. Her last win came in Strasbourg, France in 2003.
