Yukari Nakano Wins Gold at NHK Trophy Figure Skating Competition

Japan's Yukari Nakano has recovered from a fall early in her long program to win the ladies title at the NHK Trophy figure skating competition in Osaka, Japan.

Nakano landed a triple axel on her opening jump, but then fell. She finished with 158.66 points and edged compatriot Fumie Suguri by 0.18 point (158.48). Ukraine's Elena Liashenko finished third. The top U.S. finisher was Kimie Meissner, who finished fifth.

Meanwhile Canada's Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon took the ice dancing competition to qualify for the Grand Prix final for the sixth consecutive time.

In the men's short program, Japan's Daisuke Takahashi won the short program with compatriot Nobunari Oda second and American Evan Lysacek third.

The men's long program is Sunday. The NHK is the sixth event of the International Skating Union's Grand Prix series. The top six scorers in each discipline qualify for the Grand Prix final in Tokyo in two weeks.
