A Kuwaiti newspaper is reporting that a court has sentenced a member of the royal family who serves as the president of the Olympic Council of Asia to six months in prison.

The daily newspaper Al-Qabas on Friday said Sheikh Ahmed Fahad Al Sabah was sentenced Thursday after being convicted of disobeying a gag order by discussing a video involving a purported plot to overthrow the government.

Al Sabah earlier apologized on state television, saying he was "misinformed" about the plot, without elaborating. Al Sabah and his lawyer could not be reached for comment Friday.

The paper says the court set a bail of some $3,300 in the case but it wasn't immediately clear if Al Sabah had paid the bail to remain free. He can appeal the verdict.
