California Orders Mandatory Evacuations Ahead of Storm

Officials in California have ordered mandatory evaluations of 1,000 homes in two suburbs of Los Angeles ahead of a powerful storm.

The cities of Glendora and Azusa issued the orders Thursday for homes that could be endangered by mudslides from nearly 810 hectares of steep mountain slopes burned by a wildfire last month.

Workers have been working around the clock since Wednesday filling sandbags and distributing them.

California received widespread rain Wednesday and early Thursday from the first of two back-to-back storms. The more powerful second storm is due overnight.
