French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner is visiting Afghanistan for a three-day visit, which may be his last trip to the country as foreign minister.
The French Foreign Ministry website says Kouchner's previously unannounced trip started Friday and will conclude Sunday.
He is to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and other Afghan officials to discuss bilateral relations, days ahead of a NATO summit in Lisbon.
His visit also comes days before French President Nicolas Sarkozy is expected to reshuffle his Cabinet. There is speculation in the French media that Kouchner will not be asked to return as foreign minister in the next government.
