Honduras Inauguration

Conservative Juan Orlando Hernandez has been sworn in to a four-year term as president of Honduras.

About 30,000 people attended the inauguration Monday at the National Stadium in the capital, Tegucigalpa.

President Hernandez takes the reins of one of Latin America's poorest countries, in which 71 percent of 8.5 million population lives in poverty. Honduras also has one of the world's highest murder rates, recording 20 killings per day.

President Hernandez replaces Porfirio Lobo, also of the National Party, after defeating Xiomara Castro of the leftist Libre party in November elections.

Castro is the wife of ex-president Manuel Zelaya, who was deposed in a June 2009 coup, after aligning Honduras with Cuba and Venezuela.
