1,000 guns handed in by cattle herders in first week of program aimed at ending the deadly cycle of livestock raids and tribal violence
South Sudan’s Lakes State began a disarmament exercise on September 9 in all eight of its counties. This initiative is part of a concerted three-month effort to get weapons out of the hands of livestock herders and bring an end to the cattle raiding that claims dozens of lives in the state each year.
