In Afghanistan, NATO's International Security Assistance Force says one of its service members has died following a suicide bomb attack by insurgents on a joint NATO-Afghan base in Nangarhar province in the eastern part of the country.
NATO has not identified the service member's nationality. The Taliban has claimed responsibility.
Officials say five insurgents were killed Saturday when they tried to storm the base in Nangarhar's Ghani Khail district after the suicide attack.
Afghan militants intensified attacks recently in an apparent campaign to regain territory as foreign forces prepare to leave this year.
The Afghan Taliban also claimed responsibility for an explosion near a NATO base in Kabul Saturday. NATO says that blast did not result in any casualties.
