Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak appeared in court briefly Saturday, part of his retrial on charges he is complicit in the deaths of more than 800 protesters.

Mubarak sat in a wheelchair wearing dark sunglasses during the proceedings. His sons, Alaa and Gamal, were also there.

Mubarak and former Interior Minister Habib el-Adly were convicted last year of failing to prevent the killings of hundreds of protesters during the early days of the 2011 uprising that ousted him from power but an appeals court granted a retrial.

The court heard briefly from lawyers Saturday before adjourning the proceedings until August 17.
