A top Russian weapons maker says it has dismantled and destroyed a surface-to-air missile system once destined for Iran.
Almaz-Antey director Vladislav Menshchikov says the equipment for the S-300 air defense missile system no longer exists. He says that what could be used has been used, while other parts have been destroyed.
Russia's deal with Iran for the ground-to-air missiles was worth an estimated $800 million. The contract was cancelled in 2010 after U.S. and Israeli pressure, and the United Nations passed new sanctions against Tehran banning such weapons sales.
The S-300 has the capability to track 100 targets at once and fire on aircraft up to 75 miles away.
Russia says it plans to compensate Iran for down payments it made for the S-300.
