A suicide car bombing in an eastern Afghan region bordering Pakistan killed at least 10 people Tuesday evening, officials said.

The attack happened in Nazyan district of Nangarhar province and there are children among the dead, provincial police said, adding that a pro-government tribal militia leader apparently was the target. At least 23 other people were wounded.

The Afghan province is where militants linked to Islamic State are engaged in terrorist attacks against Afghan security forces.
