The U.S. Embassy in Turkey says it will have limited consular services due to an unspecified security threat.

In a statement Monday, the embassy in Ankara says public services, including visa appointments, will be cancelled on Monday and Tuesday and will be rescheduled for a later time.

It has urged U.S. citizens to avoid the embassy building on those dates.

"Please note the embassy’s operating status may be subject to change as the security situation evolves," the statement said.

Last week, the U.S. consulate in Istanbul was placed on alert following intelligence about plans by Islamic State militants for a possible attack.
