US Drone Strike in Pakistan Kills 3

Pakistani intelligence officials say an overnight U.S. drone strike in the northwestern tribal region has killed three people.

Authorities say two missiles targeted a vehicle in Datta Khel village in North Waziristan, a stronghold of al-Qaida and Taliban-linked militants.

Pakistan has repeatedly criticized U.S. drone attacks as a violation of the country's sovereignty, but American officials say the strikes are a key tool in defeating guerrillas.

Elsewhere, officials say an explosion killed five people and wounded at least 20 Friday in Jafarabad, in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province.

Baluchistan has experienced years of violence by separatists who demand a greater share of the region's natural resources. Taliban militants also have been active in the province.
