Bush Arrives in Zambia

LUSAKA – Former U.S. President George W. Bush arrived in Lusaka Saturday.

Bush is traveling to Zambia and Botswana this week to promote his foundation's health initiative to improve cervical cancer prevention and treatment programs in Africa.

Zambia has one of the highest incidences of cervical cancer in the world, in part because many of the people infected with the disease are also living with HIV and have weakened immune systems.

The former president is traveling with his wife Laura Bush and was met at the airport by Zambia's Vice President Guy Scott.

During his presidency Bush, with bipartisan support from Congress, initiated a multi-billion- dollar AIDS program that provided life saving antiretroviral drugs to millions of Africans living with HIV.
