US Charges al-Qaida Operative Plotted to Kill Americans

U.S. prosecutors have charged a Saudi-born man with working with al-Qaida to kill Americans in Afghanistan and Nigeria.

Ibrahim Suleiman Adnan Adam Harun was named in court papers filed Wednesday in New York City.

The charges against him include conspiracy to murder American military personnel in Afghanistan, conspiracy to bomb American diplomatic facilities in Nigeria, and providing material support to al-Qaida.

The charges are in connection with his alleged activities since 2001. According to the indictment, Harun received military-type training at al-Qaida training camps, and fought against United States and Coalition forces in Afghanistan with an al-Qaida group based in Pakistan. He also allegedly traveled to Africa with the intent to conduct attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Nigeria.

Harun, who is also known as "Spin Ghul," claims citizenship in Niger. He was extradited last October from Italy to the United States. Prosecutors say he is to appear in court Friday.
